Recent studies have shown that the quality of early education is the key to later school success. Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. It’s essential to getting and keeping a job with a livable wage. And it’s fundamental to a community’s economic prosperity.
The majority of our families are from West Tampa, where economic needs run deep.
The Learning Center is not just another child care center. All teachers have a Child Development Associate (CDA) and several teachers are furthering their education to obtain their AA degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE). Many assistant teachers are working on their CDA and each classroom has a small 6:1 student/teacher ratio. All the activities are age-appropriate and include: computers, music, home-living, science, arts & crafts, storytelling, lending libraries for children and parents, writing skills, dramatic arts and pre-writing and reading skills.
The Learning Center is a Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) provider. VPK is a legislatively mandated and funded program that is designed to prepare every four-year-old in Florida for kindergarten and build a foundation for their educational success.
What's Our St. John campus, with a capacity for 100 students, has six pre-school classrooms totaling 76 children and is located in the heart of the West Tampa community. The preschool program consists of three Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) classes for four year olds, two classes for three year olds and one two year old class.
