The Learning Center Programs

The most important goal of any early childhood program is to help children become enthusiastic learners. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to think their own thoughts, try out their own ideas and construct their own knowledge through hands-on experiences. At The Learning Center, we believe that each child is unique, with special gifts and talents and we aspire to teach every child to become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. Not just in preschool, but throughout life.

The Learning Center Curriculum

We consider the whole child when planning learning experiences and activities. Our customized curriculum balances both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning with an emphasis on responding to a child’s learning style. By tapping into a child’s natural curiosity about the world, we encourage critical thinking, investigation, problem-solving skills and creativity to instill a lasting feeling of confidence. Our preschool classes use Creative Curriculum for Preschool, a project-based module designed to support investigations in science and social studies while developing skills in literacy, math, the arts and physical development. Creative Curriculum not only makes learning exciting, but relevant for every child.

The Learning Center Classrooms

The learning environment is the structure of the classroom that sets the context for teaching and learning. Our classrooms are warm and inviting places where children, teachers and parents can work and play together. The spacious classrooms are designed with large areas for projects to spread out and filled with a variety of materials that encourage children to explore, experiment, discover and learn. They are organized into interest areas which provide a setting for children to experiment, learn and apply skills. Our unique outdoor environment combines play areas, materials and equipment that incorporate the science of play and an intuitive curiosity about nature. While our classrooms and outdoor spaces play a crucial role in the daily learning experiences of children, we strive to develop beliefs and values like kindness, conflict-resolution, empathy and respect each day through our words and actions in an effort to develop the whole child.
